N Ramachandran

Is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the intersections of materiality, cultural memory, and contemporary visual expression. Born in 1975 in Paramakudi, India, he earned his M.F.A. from the Government College of Fine Arts, Chennai and later pursued a B.A. (Hons.) in Glass from Edinburgh College of Art.

His artistic achievements have been recognized with prestigious honors, including the National Academy Award from Lalit Kala Akademi (2008) and the Charles Wallace India Trust Award (2008–09). His solo exhibitions, such as @/cropped/no U-turn (2014) and Sun and the Moon (2009–10), showcase his evolving engagement with space, form, and contemporary narratives.

Ramachandran’s artistic practice spans painting, sculpture, glasswork, and large-scale installations, often blending traditional techniques with modern conceptual frameworks. His participation in major exhibitions, including Art of India (2022–25), Spice Box and Other Voids (Palette Art Gallery, 2023), and NH 7+47: Southern Sojourn (Dubai, 2015), reflects his dynamic presence in the contemporary art scene. He has also undertaken numerous commissioned projects, including installations for ITC Dakshin (2023) and collaborations with traditional artisans. Through his work, Ramachandran continues to push the boundaries of artistic experimentation, creating a dialogue between heritage, material innovation, and contemporary sensibilities
