Baroda’s access to ceramic materials and cultural heritage made it an ideal place for his practice, rather than his hometown in Telangana. Gujarat’s rich mining and chemical industries provide essential raw materials, making it a hub for ceramic artists.
Vinod’s work is deeply influenced by temple architecture, reinterpreting forms like vases, platters, and urns with lyrical embellishments. His use of gold and copper glazes reflects his jewellery-making heritage. Repetitive patterns in his work evoke meditative chants, while symbolic references to mandalas, the lotus, and the lingam-yoni duality explore themes of male-female energies and universal oneness. Through his art, he contemplates the fundamental aspects of life and notions of universal peace.
He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions internationally, showcasing his distinctive approach to ceramic sculpture on a global platform. He is also a member of the International Academy of Ceramics (IAC), Geneva, and the International Ceramic Artists Association, Zibo, China. Over the years, he has received several prestigious awards, including the National Scholarship for Young Artists, Government of India (1997), AIFACS Award for Best Potter of the Year, New Delhi (1998), AIFACS Award for Best Exhibit, New Delhi (2000), Junior Fellowship, Government of India (2002), Harmony Judges’ Special Award, Harmony Show, Mumbai (2004), Charles Wallace India Trust Award, British Council, India (2004), Honourable Award at the International Traditional Macsabal Competition, Turkey (2020), and the Bronze Award at the Fourth Shanghai International Wood-Fired Ceramics Art Festival (2022).
